Antioxidant
Curcumin is a novel antioxidant, which can prevent the oxidative stress DNA damage induced by Pyruvic Aldehyde / Lysine, and inhibit apoptosis of monocytes and reactive oxygen species induced by Pyruvic Aldehyde. The molecular structure of curcumin contains phenolic hydroxyl groups, which has a strong ability to remove free radical. It is reported that curcumin has greater antioxidant activity than beta-carotene and tocopherol. Inflammation is a complex process, and cell infection or tissue damage can cause a series of chain reactions and lead to the rapid onset of some chronic diseases. It can be achieved by inducing cancer cell cycle arrest, regulating oncogenes, inhibiting the expression of oncogenes and their proteins and regulating apoptosis signals, from DNA,mRNA to protein level can be used as its target.

Chen and other studies have shown that curcumin compounds can reduce blood lipids and anti-atherosclerosis. Sun Xiucai and others carried out animal experiments and the results showed that curcumin could significantly reduce the level of diet hyperlipidemia and serum total cholesterol level in liver, reduce the content of serum low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and increase the content of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol. The effect of curcumin on lowering serum low-density lipoprotein cholesterol is better than that of lowering high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and its mechanism may be related to increasing the activity of plasma metabolism-related enzymes.
